For the holidays, the 100 launched
initiatives to spread the joys of Thanksgiving and Christmas
to economically disadvantaged families and children. Since
1989, the 100, through its Thanksgiving
Food Drive, has purchased and assembled "baskets" with
traditional Thanksgiving meals for needy Miami- Dade County
residents. The 100 delivers the meals to
various social and Community Partner Programs. The agencies
identify the families and distribute the meals. To date more
than 4,500 families have benefited from the program through
the 100's partnership with Jorge & Jerry's
IGA and PUBLIX supermarkets. The 100 serve
Thanksgiving meals from as far as Florida City to Opa-Locka
As
we continue to impact the lives of many families year
to year with our Thanksgiving Food Drive, our list
of families in need continues to grow as the territory
of families to feed. Our budget for this activity far
exceeds the allotted amount of $5,500 to provide meals
to families located throughout North and South Miami
Dade County. With additional funding, our Thanksgiving
Food Drive could be in position to feed more families
for Thanksgiving while also engaging additional community
partners to help us concentrate on a greater population
of families in need that time of year.
